- MEET MICHAEL GOODMAN

ABOUT THE MUSIC ON THIS WEBSITE

The original purpose of this website was to house MG’s recordings, and as a central contact location. Features of the site include six albums, a live show, and a weekly "cover-of-the-week" for download.

The bulk of the “Want U With Me LP” was recorded in a single day. A marathon 2-day session in the basement of now-defunct North Six (in which MG recorded drum tracks for a whopping 63 songs) would form the basis of the three "Serious Party" albums. Some of the extra material from these sessions turned up on the "bonus" album “Lambchops”, which is available for purchase only. Soon after, MG put together a band “The Mike” to play a string of live shows, mostly in Brooklyn.

As the 2000s wore on, and the times were looking bleak, MG wrote and recorded "Strong Death", a self-described “song-cycle about.....grim life getting grimmer and how to approach it, succumb to it, or conquer it....thoughts of suicide versus....going to a baseball game!” While recording "Strong Death", MG also cut "Serious Christmas". The very secular "Serious Christmas" is posted every December and has become a holiday favorite.

The socio-political/economic climate of the 2000s provided the fuel for all of the songs on MG’s latest release, "Mikenomics". (Other matters fuel it's companion piece, "Herbanomics", another "bonus" album, available for purchase or trade only) MG's next album, "New Young Century", will be acoustic-only field recordings.

Despite a hermit-like existence while writing and recording, MG will step out of his cave on occasion for live interaction. MG opened up for Jonathan Richman throughout a three-night stand at North Six in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He toured in 2006 and 2007 as a member of The Fiery Furnaces. MG and the Mike has opened for The Furnaces several times as well.

MG is a long-time supporter of non-commercial radio, and has performed live on WUSB-FM in Stony Brook, Long Island, WFMU in Jersey City, New Jersey and on KRSW’s “Morning Becomes Eclectic” with The Fiery Furnaces.
